About Chefmate by Globe Light Duty Slicers

These economy slicers are only recommended if you slice for one hour or less per day.  This could include:

  • Residential Use
  • Hunters
  • Independent, low-volume restaurants
  • Breweries
  • Churches
  • Nursing Homes
  • Country Clubs
  • Cafes

Only meat and produce slicing is recommended, though the C12 model can handle a limited amount of cheese.

No automatic slicers are available in this light duty series.  For an automatic option, see our medium duty slicers.

Selecting Your Medium-Duty Globe Slicer

The G12 is the best-selling slicer in this medium duty line.  It's the right size for many mid-volume operations.

To really narrow down your selection, though, you should consider a few main factors:

  • How much time do you spend slicing per day?
  • How much of that time will you spend slicing cheese?
  • What's the size of the largest item you need to slice?
  • What's your budget?

Use the chart below to choose.

Model # Slice Time (in hours)
% Time Slicing Cheese Manual Automatic Motor Blade (Diameter) Max Slice Thickness Cutting Capacity Diameter Cutting Capacity Width Cutting Capacity Height

More Notes to Help You Choose

Model Notes
Globe G10
Good if you need a step above an economy slicer, but for proper use, you shouldn't be slicing more than two hours per day.
Globe G12
Globe's best-selling slicer.  Can handle medium duty volume at a nice price point.
Globe G12A
Globe's only automatic medium duty slicer.  Can still operate in manual mode.
Globe G14
A larger blade for more power if you need it, but also a larger capacity if you need to slice big items.
Globe GC512
The GC512 has a has a gear-driven motor with more insulation and thicker wiring than other slicers in this line, so it can run longer without overheating (even with less horsepower).  All food contact areas on this slicer (including the removable receiving tray) are stainless steel, which makes cleaning a bit easier and improves sanitation.  It’s a good slicer that’s in-between a medium and heavy duty. Perhaps you need a medium duty now, but plan to increase production. Or maybe you don’t have heavy volume all the time, but you need a little bit more than a medium duty slicer (i.e. convenience stores, restaurants, sandwich shops and universities).
GSO12

The GSO12 is a new open body model. It provides easier access to the platform so you can make sandwiches & deli platters more efficiently, and can also clean the slicer more efficiently.

Why Cheaper Is Not Always Better for Medium-Duty Slicers

We are all for helping you find the most cost-effective slicer for your needs.  But you need to make sure you have "enough" slicer for your daily use.

Here are some things to consider:

  1. The horsepower of the motor is not the only thing that gives a slicer more power.  Horsepower is important, but blade length and the construction of the motor also play a part.  That's why the G14 with a 14" blade has more slice time (and more capacity to handle cheese) than the G12, with the same 1/2 horsepower motor.  It's also why the GC512 has a 12" blade and only 1/3 horsepower, but can still slice up to 6 hours per day.
  2. We're not kidding about cheese.  We hate to sound like a broken record, but we talk a lot about time spent slicing cheese when we talk about slicers.  Cheese is a lot more taxing on a slicer's components than meat or veggies.  Pay attention to this aspect of a slicer's specs to make sure you get a slicer that you'll be happy with.
  3. You can always call us!  Call us or chat with us and we can make a recommendation.  We can also give you the best available pricing and help you get delivery set up.

Selecting Your Heavy Duty Premium Globe Slicer

When Globe redesigned their premium slicers (formerly called the N-Series), they put them up to the test against the exacting standards of a national restaurant chain known for its thinly sliced beef.  They exceeded the standards.

Slice meat and cheese all day with these slicers, with quality that's really second to none.
