Looking for the Hobart FD3? The FD4 is a Different Size

One of  Hobart’s most popular commercial food waste disposers, the Hobart FD3, was phased out and replaced with the next generation FD4. It’s still the same basic machine, but there is one key difference that is throwing some people off: its size.

A Key Difference between the Hobart FD3 and the New FD4: Size

Hobart FD3 is now the FD4Popular models of the Hobart FD3 were differentiated by horsepower, and include:

• FD3-50 (now FD4-50)
• FD3-75 (now FD4-75)
• FD3-125 (now FD4-125)
• FD3-150 (now FD4-150)
• FD3-200 (now FD4-200)

The same horse powers are available in the FD4, but slight modifications were made to the overall dimensions of the units in order to meet new regulations for waste equipment. As a result, the FD4 models are longer and narrower than their predecessors, the FD3.

The size differential is only a couple of inches, but that can make a big difference in applications that were already tight on space.

It may also require adjustments to how the unit mounts in your setup.

Options if You’re Replacing a Hobart FD3

If you’re trying to replace the FD3, and your space allows, the FD4 is a fine replacement.

If your space doesn’t allow for installation of an FD4, you might have to shop around a bit.
